About ZAWLPUI SECTION
Introduction :
Zawlpui Section is among the youngest and smallest Pastorates in Lunglei District. Among the 20 Pastorates existing (as on 2021), it ranks 19th, and according to the 2021 Statistics, it is the second smallest pastorate in terms of total membership. Located on the western side of Lunglei, branching off onto the PB Road (Phairuang to Bunghmun road) just before reaching the Phairuang bridge on the Tlabung road, the Zawlpui Section extends along the main road starting from Belthei village up to Bolia Veng/Tuisenchhuah.
Establishment of the Section :
In earlier times, the area of Zawlpui Section was shared between Thenhlum Section and Lungsen Section. Tuisen, Bolia, and Zawlpui were under Thenhlum Section, whereas Belthei and Putlungasih were attached to Lungsen Section. For some time, there had been a vision to open a Pastorate along the PB Road and bring the Kau river valley region under a single administrative division. The main reason was that Zawlpui was nearly 40 km away from Thenhlum, and Putlungasih, the farthest local church in Lungsen Section, was also around 40 km away. Additionally, both Thenhlum and Lungsen Section had a large number of local churches to oversee.
During the 48th District Conference, a petition to open a new Pastorate on the PB Road was submitted by Lungsen Section, and their feasibility study report was presented at the 49th District Conference. Resolution No. 1 of the 49th District Conference in 2014 passed the decision to open a new Pastorate on the PB Road with its pastoral headquarters stationed at Zawlpui.
Beginning of the Section :
Following the resolution of the District Conference, the District Board formally created the Zawlpui Pastorate, and the District Superintendent of the time, Rev. C. Darkhuma, officially inaugurated it. Pastor H. Rothuama was appointed as the first District Pastor. The boundaries of the pastorate were fixed, incorporating five churches from Belthei to Bolia Veng / Tuisenchhuah, which were:
- Belthei
- Putlungasih
- Zawlpui
- Boliaveng
- Tuisenchhuah
Pastor Quarters :
Since 2005, the District Mission Department had designated Zawlpui as a Field Evangelist/Home Missionary Station. A temporary Missionary Quarters made of bamboo and thatch had been erected earlier. In 2011, under the arrangement of the District Mission, while Home Missionary Evan. Zoramchhana Sailo was stationed there, a good Assam-type Missionary Quarters was constructed. When the Pastorate was inaugurated, the existing Missionary Quarters was slightly renovated by the District and continued to be used as the Pastor Quarters.
Resolution No. 6 of the 6th Zawlpui Section Board held at Putlungasih Church on October 27, 2018, discussed the repair of the Pastor Quarters. It resolved that if the District was not yet able to construct a new quarter, a request should be made to repair it. This was considered in Resolution No. 5 of the 194th District Board on December 4, 2018. Since the District Building and Property Board had also submitted a proposal to construct a new Pastor Quarters for Zawlpui, it passed a resolution to build a new one in 2019 instead of carrying out repairs.
On March 20, 2019, the District Superintendent at the time, Rev. R. Lalrosanga, laid the foundation stone for the Quarters, and construction commenced in April. As requested by the Building and Property Board, the District Board sanctioned Rs. 14.5 lakhs for the construction, with which the Building and Property Board swiftly carried out the construction work. Utilizing the available funds, the Quarters was completed for occupation by September 2019, and in early October, the pastorate minister at the time, Pastor Muanpuia Colney, moved in.
