About ELECTRIC VENG LOCAL
For the establishment of the United Pentecostal Church, Electric Veng Local, Lunglei, dedicated members gathered on June 17, 1990 (Sunday). Nine (9) members attended this first administrative meeting, where it was decided that further initiatives were necessary. Consequently, a committee body was formed and named the 'Electric Veng Men's Committee'. The following office bearers were appointed :
Chairman : R. Kawlzika
Vice Chairman : R. Tlansanga
Secretary : B. Kapmawia
Asst. Secretary : H. Laldinthanga
Treasurer : PC. Siamkhuma
Asst. Treasurer : LH. Lalthlamuana
During this initial Men's Committee meeting, R. Kawlzika served as Acting Chairman and H. Laldinthanga served as Secretary. Other members present were F. Lalnghakliana, F. Thangliana, F. Thangnghilhlova, and LH. Rohmingliana; LH. Lalthlamuana was absent.
In the second Men's Committee meeting held on July 8, 1990, it was decided to set a target of Rs. 10,000 for the church building fund between July and December 1990. Plans were made for fundraising activities every Tuesday evening along with other fundraising measures. At the 3rd Committee meeting on August 7, 1990, a community work trip (hnatlang) was organized to cut bamboo in the Pukpui area along the Tlawng river for fundraising. At the 4th Committee meeting on September 2, 1990, it was resolved that rather than branching out solely from Chandmari, members residing in various localities would assemble together under the name 'Electric Veng UPC'. Decisive plans were set regarding the time and place for holding separate worship services.
In the 5th Committee meeting on September 9, 1990, September 16, 1990 (Sunday) was tentatively set for the inaugural separate service at the basement of Bro. R. Kawlzika's residence. Since Bro. R. Kawlzika’s basement was not fully completed, it was decided to purchase 20 wooden planks for future use, and that services would temporarily be held at Bro. PC. Siamkhuma’s home until completion.
At the 6th Committee meeting on September 15, 1990, regarding the planned separate service, it was reported that the District Superintendent and Section Pastor requested the fellowship to hold off and await further instructions, leading to a resolution to delay separate services temporarily.
The 7th Committee meeting held on September 16, 1990, was attended by District Superintendent Rev. H. Chalchhunga, Chandmari Section Pastor Rev. Saidawla, and Section Secretary Evan. CH. Rongaia. During this meeting, plans for starting separate services were finalized. Following leadership advice, November 4, 1990, was selected as the date, and a detailed schedule was prepared. During this time, church members residing in Electric Veng attended services in various localities—Chandmari, Farm Veng, Venglai, and Venghlun—and held committee meetings following those services.
In the 8th Committee meeting on October 18, 1990, a community work day was scheduled for October 20, 1990, to prepare the venue at Bro. R. Kawlzika's basement. During the 9th Committee meeting on October 21, 1990, detailed schedules for both day and evening programs for the inauguration on November 4, 1990, were formulated. For the fellowship tea, it was resolved that each household would contribute a large wrapped local rice cake (Zo chhang). A membership census was scheduled for October 28, 1990.
At the 10th Committee meeting on November 1, 1990, arrangements for the initial service were discussed, alongside follow-up actions for the pending church land application at the Revenue Directorate in Aizawl.
Thus, as planned, Electric Veng UPC joyfully held its first official service on November 4, 1990 (Sunday) at the home of Bro. PC. Siamkhuma.

Darhmingthanga, as a License Holder, be granted ministerial duties and a seat on the Local Church Board.
The 4th Church Board Committee meeting on December 2, 1990, decided on Christmas feast arrangements, tea preparation, and designated Bro. PC. Siamkhuma's home for evening praise/singing gatherings. The 5th Committee meeting on December 18, 1990, finalized the Christmas program details. Bro. PC. Siamkhuma and his wife expressed a desire to host a thanksgiving offering, set for December 22, 1990, featuring a cattle sacrifice; as the shoulder portion ('dar') was designated for God's work (Tithe), its valuation was set at Rs. 200.
In this manner, the Electric Veng congregation experienced joyful early fellowship, holding frequent committee meetings as a newly established church.
With the new year, the first official Local Church Board formation meeting took place on January 5, 1991 (Saturday) at 1:00 PM at Bro. R. Kawlzika’s residence, attended by 14 members led by the Section Pastor. Section Pastor Rev. Saidawla was accompanied by Rev. P. Rodawla, District Missions Director, and Bro. H. Lalmuana from Farm Veng.
The Section Pastor proposed that 9 existing ministers continue their ministry, which was unanimously accepted, alongside 2 newly added ministers: Bro. PC. Dailova and Bro. F. Thangnghilhlova. It was decided to appoint 3 Church Elders; along with Upa Challianthanga, Bro. R. Kawlzika and Bro. B. Kapmawia were elected as Elders.
The following Office Bearers of the Local Church Board were elected :

Leaders for various departments—PYD, LAD, Missions, and Sunday School—were also appointed, while existing Church Board Committee membership was retained.
The appointment of Sunday School teachers, the Building Committee, and PCD leaders was entrusted to the Church Board. On January 8, 1991, responsibilities were formally handed over, and a Church Board Committee meeting was held that evening to finalize Sunday School teachers and PCD leaders. At the first monthly Church Board Committee meeting on January 15, 1991, the Building Committee was formed with the following office bearers :
Chairman : Evan. Darhmingthanga
Secretary : LH. Lalthlamuana
Treasurer : F. Doliana
Members : C. Thangluaia, PC. Dailova, PC. Siamkhuma, Upa. B. Kapmawia, Zairemthanga, and F. Thangliana.
Bro. F. Doliana, Building Treasurer, was inducted as a new Church Board Member during the 3rd monthly committee meeting on March 10, 1991.
Church Building Construction & Progress :
The house of Upa R. Kawlzika, which served as the meeting place, was no longer available from March 1991. Bro. PC. Siamkhuma graciously offered his home for worship services before alternative locations were identified, and services began at his residence on the evening of February 13, 1991.
Regarding the land application submitted to the government, the committee on March 10, 1991, appointed Bro. H. Lalhmangaiha and Bro. F. Thangnghilhlova to follow up. Following advice from the Revenue Department, they were tasked with obtaining a 'No Objection Certificate' from the Education Department and were dispatched to Aizawl with a budget of Rs. 800.
Bro. H. Lalhmangaiha and his companion returned joyfully with news that the land processing in Aizawl could be finalized. Bro. H. Lalhmangaiha volunteered to travel again with Rs. 600, shortly after which the land allotment was officially completed.
The first community work day for clearing the building site took place on May 20, 1991. Once initial site clearance was complete, since services were being held in private homes, it was decided to erect a temporary structure ('Bawk'). On July 23, 1991, a community work trip was organized to Pachang land to collect timber posts. A temporary structure measuring 30 ft in length and 15 ft in width was constructed after about four timber-harvesting work trips.
Upon completion of the temporary structure, the monthly committee on September 8, 1991, resolved to hold services in the new building starting the evening of September 24, 1991 (Tuesday), incorporating Missionary Day (September 25) celebrations, LAD opening initiatives, and a community feast. During the first evening service at the new structure, Upa B. Kapmawia served as Chairman and Section Pastor Rev. PC. Rosanga served as Speaker.
To make way for a new building, the temporary structure was dismantled on September 22, 1995, and the new structure was partially occupied on September 29, 1995. Individual members and departments united through significant financial targets and weekly Saturday work days to complete the church building despite numerous hardships.
After more than 15 years of occupying the building, growing membership rendered the existing facility insufficient. Rebuilding plans initiated around 2011, constructing the new structure around the existing operational building. Through bank loans and sustained efforts, a new structure measuring approximately 45 ft by 85 ft was erected. The old structure was demolished, and occupation of the new church building began in 2020. It was officially dedicated on November 5, 2020, by Rev. C. Hmingthanfala, Headquarters Section Pastor.
Severe Trial Faced by the Church :
An unexpected and unimaginable hardship struck the local church as organizational developments within UPC of Mizoram in Aizawl impacted the locality. Amidst preparations for a PYD-sponsored camp scheduled for December 14–16, 1995, events unfolded on December 11, 1995 (Monday) during a Christmas firewood collection effort. That evening, during a Joint PYD & LAD service, standard procedures were bypassed when Sis. Nuchhungi yielded the chair to Upa B. Kapmawia. During the service, a faction expressed their desire to join the UPC of Mizoram by raising hands. Without seeking a count from those opposed, the majority faction claimed ownership of the church property and items. On December 14, 1995 (Thursday), while camp organizers were working, government authorities locked the church building. Tensions ran high as both groups claimed majority status. Although it was a painful ordeal, local government authorities (Magistrate) ordered the reopening of the building on December 23, 1995 (Saturday) at 10:00 AM. During the 10-day closure, services and Christmas celebrations were hosted at the home of Bro. K. Thangdailova.
At the time of reopening, the church building was incomplete, with over Rs. 17,000 in outstanding debts and temporary bamboo window/door coverings. Nevertheless, through community resilience and faith, financial debts were gradually cleared, giving targets were consistently met, and collection offerings increased beyond previous levels.
