Development of Church Buildings
Regarding acquiring the first church site, lots were drawn and number 2 was drawn by our Pi Kumthari. The BCM side chose first. On February 15, 1976, they held a separate worship service at Elder Selhnuna's residence. From here, they sawed timber and prepared materials for the church building. After intensive community labor, the first church building was inaugurated on March 8, 1980, while under Chanmari District. It was inaugurated by Pastor Zalawma, with Rev. H. Chalchhunga also attending the inauguration event. This was the first church building acquired.
Preparations to build the second church building began in 1985. By God's presence and protection, the second church building was completed. After occupying it for several years, the Cyclone that struck on May 19, 1997, damaged the church building, prompting immediate preparations to dismantle and rebuild it.
Financial Assistance Received
- Lunglei Dist UPC - Rs. 2000
- From USA - Rs. 3000
- Theiriat Section PYD held a Sports Meet at Thaizawl Local; the offering of Rs. 127 and 20 paise collected on May 14-16, 1999, was donated towards the construction of the Thaizawl Local church building.
The third church building was realized through financial aid received as well as sawing timber as much as possible. Efforts were also made to pour RCC pillars for the foundation, and after working tirelessly day and night, it was eventually occupied.
The Fourth Church Building
Starting in 2017, work began to construct the new building around the existing structure without demolishing it. The foundation stone for the fourth church building was laid by Rev. R. Lalrosanga. Its length is 57 ft and its width is 26 ft. Due to financial constraints, progress could not move as fast as desired. However, the dedication of the church members was high with great fervor, and we received considerable contributions from individuals as well. We received a small compensation from the NH 54 highway expansion and also financial assistance from the District. In 2023, the church building was occupied, and renovations/improvements are currently ongoing.
