History of Lungpuizawl Local

This church is located within Theiriat Section, situated in a location where its border nearly connects with Hrangchalkawn, lying between Zobawk and Hrangchalkawn. Previously, all UPC members residing here attended services at Hrangchalkawn Local. Over time, as the membership grew and the distance to the place of worship was quite far, a desire arose to hold separate worship services during the tenure of Rev. P. Rodawla. Furthermore, with the establishment of a separate Village Council (V.C.) in 1995, founding a distinct Local Church was deemed highly appropriate. This desire grew stronger, and on January 29, 2003, parents gathered at the residence of Bro. Vanlalpeka (Vety Quarter) to discuss separation. Bro. Vanlaltlinga chaired the meeting, and an Adhoc Committee was formed with the following leaders:

Following this, they submitted their request for separation to the Section Board, which considered and approved their separation. May 4, 2003, was fixed as the date of separation. Contributions for constructing a church building continued to accumulate. They applied to the V.C. for the current site for the church building, which was granted. However, they could not construct it immediately. Section Pastor Rev. P. Rodawla officially formed the Church office bearers on May 4, 2003 (Sunday) as follows:

On Tuesday, May 6, 2003, under the leadership of Section Pastor Rev. P. Rodawla, other departments were formed as follows:

At the time of church separation, there were 53 members: 32 males and 21 females.

Church Building Construction :

As mentioned earlier, the site granted by the V.C. was surveyed on October 16, 2003, along with Revenue Department officials under the guidance of Rev. P. Rodawla. They faced slight difficulties regarding the land plot. However, due to the dedication and efficiency of V.C. President Bro. Lalrinmawia, who was also a Church Board member, the land survey was completed successfully, for which they were very thankful.

Section Pastor Rev. P. Rodawla laid the foundation stone for the church building. Funds were continuously raised for the construction, and various Local churches within the Section provided great assistance, which was deeply appreciated. Before acquiring a proper church building, the unfinished residence of Upa Lalbiakliana was prepared for services, where they held worship for a considerable period. The contributors and their respective donation amounts for the church construction are as follows:

Funds were raised continuously, reaching Rs. 2,220/-. Additional help in terms of labor, funds, and support kept pouring in from various Local churches in the Section. The District Church provided CGI sheets for the roof, and the District LAD supported with Rs. 3,000/-. Dr. K. Lalchhuanawma, Vety Farm Manager, donated a Pulpit along with 20 tins of sand for floor finishing and a church bell. Furthermore, Bro. Lalchuailova of Bazar Veng, Lunglei, sponsored all the window glass, while Hrangchalkawn donated Rs. 1,000/-, and Bro. C. Thasiama supported with Rs. 1,500/-.

Due to the small membership size, construction took a long time; it was built using sawn timber, tile walls, and CGI sheets for the skirting. The dimensions were 30 feet in length and 18 feet in width, complete with a front porch. A total of 235 voluntary labor shifts (tha) were spent constructing the church.

Then, the Section Pastor at the time, Rev. P.C. Doliana, officially inaugurated it on Saturday, March 25, 2006, accompanied by a feast, attended by over a hundred people. Members from every Local church in Theiriat Section joined the inauguration feast, for which pigs and chickens were slaughtered. In 2011, the current building was dismantled, relocated, and reconstructed using its old materials, followed by an inauguration led by Section Pastor Rev. P. Lalthanga. Currently, plans are underway to build a new church edifice; on Monday, January 26, 2026, Section Pastor Rev. R. Lalsangzuala laid the foundation stone, and voluntary work for digging pillar pits was conducted immediately.

Lungpuizawl Local currently has 60 members (2025 report), with 3 Elders (Upa) and 2 Preachers (Rawngbawltu).
