When the entire town of Lunglei belonged to a single local church, a church building was located in Rahsiveng where everyone gathered. From here, on October 12, 1969, the Bawngveng Church separated to form its own congregation. The site for the church building was initially chosen just below present-day Police Lane. However, due to various difficulties, it was built at the present Venglai Church site, which at that time was still part of the Bawngveng VC Area. After the government altered the ward boundaries and the church location came under Venglai Area, it came to be known as Venglai Church.

When the VC Area was demarcated, many difficulties arose regarding social and bereavement affairs, leading to a desire for independent administration. Thus, on April 6, 1975, they separated from Venglai. As independent administration was established, leaders were immediately formed as follows:

History of Church Building Construction:

As time passed, the government renamed the locality, and on July 10, 1987, the name Bawngveng was changed to Venghlun, thus becoming Venghlun Local. The present site of Venghlun Middle School was initially designated for the church building and excavation began. However, due to certain difficulties, it was relocated to the present church site. Thus, construction of the church began. The first church building was inaugurated on Sunday, December 19, 1976, by Rev. H. Vankunga. As membership grew, efforts were made to build a larger and better church. Through relentless labor without rest, the largest and most impressive church in UPC Lunglei District was completed in early 1991. However, while members were enthusiastically preparing for its inauguration, a severe cyclone destroyed it completely on April 29, 1991, causing immense sorrow. Many adults cried aloud in grief. The funds raised for the inauguration were then used to erect a temporary shed. Subsequently, a new RCC structure was built from scratch (this being the fourth church building), and in the year 2000, during the 25th Silver Jubilee celebration, this fourth church building was inaugurated. Desiring to construct a newer building, funds began to be raised again in 2017. As time progressed, on Monday, April 5, 2021, District Pastor Rev. C. Lalhriatpuia laid the foundation stone in a solemn ceremony, marks the start of constructing the Fifth Church building. The fourth building was dismantled, and worship services were temporarily held in the Sunday School Hall beneath the fifth church building under construction. On December 6, 2025, the new church building was officially occupied.

A good number of license holders and pastors have emerged from this church, including: Rev. Saithanga Sailo, Rev. Lalchhara, Rev. T. Bualzika, Rev. C. Zohmingliana, Rev. P. Lalthanga, Evan. K. Zaikhuma, Evan. TC. Lalzawna, Darsawithangi, Evan. PC. Zosangliana.

Among these license holders, those currently serving as active pastors within Lunglei District are: Rev. T. Bualzika, Rev. T. Lalchhara, Rev. Saithanga Sailo, Rev. C. Zohmingliana, and Rev. P. Lalthanga. Additionally, one of the present active pastors, Pastor PC. Zionrammawia, is also a native of Venghlun. It is a rapidly growing church.
