About RANGTE SOUTH LOCAL
ESTABLISHMENT / DIVISION OF THE CHURCH :
In 2006, there were three different churches with distinct doctrines in Rangte village, with UPC (NEI) members comprising nearly 70% of the village population. Hoping for faster ministry and church progress, a desire arose to divide/establish two local churches. This desire was submitted to the Section Board, and the Section Board meeting held in March 2006 at Tlabung approved the division/separation of what was previously a single Rangte UPC Local into two local churches.
Following this Section decision, on March 19, 2006 (Sunday) at 2:00 pm, under the leadership of Section Pastor K. Lalchamliana and Evan. LH. Lalchhandama (Section Secretary), 15 household representatives gathered at the house of Brother V. Rosanga and officially established the church. With the creation of a separate local church, it was named 'Rangte South Local, UPC(NEI)', while the northern part of Rangte was designated as 'Rangte North Local'. At the time of its establishment, Rangte 'S' Local consisted of 33 families and 190 church members. There are no geographical boundaries dividing the two local churches ('N' and 'S') in Rangte village, allowing church members to attend whichever local church they prefer.
Development of the Church Building :
Construction of Bamboo Church Building :
On April 5, 2006, Rangte 'S' Local organized its first community voluntary work (hnatlang) to build the church, and on April 7, 2006, the new bamboo church building was completed for occupation. Over eighty voluntary work units/days were contributed. On the night of April 8, 2006 (Saturday), the church building was dedicated to God and occupied immediately.
Construction of Pucca Building :
On November 12, 2008 (Wednesday), the Lunglei District Superintendent at the time, Rev. R. Lalrosanga, laid the foundation stone for the church building. This new church was built in less than a year, and we were deeply grateful that the tin roofing was provided by the District.
Rev. R. Lalrosanga, District Superintendent, along with drivers and Section Pastor B. Kamliana, stayed with us for a week and participated in the voluntary construction work; we are immensely thankful for their dedication, effort, and hard work in helping us build our church. This new church building was inaugurated by Section Pastor C. Lalhriatpuia on November 22, 2015, followed by a grand celebration with a community feast in the evening. The dimensions of the church building are 45 ft in length plus a 9 ft gallery, and 24 ft in width. The pillars are made of sawn timber, brickwork extends up to the skirting level, CGI corrugated sheets are used for the roof, and tiles are fitted on the walls.
