Phairuangkai Local :

Phairuangkai village is situated on the western side of Lunglei, along the road to Tlabung and on the banks of the Phairuang River. Although it is a relatively small village, being located on the riverbank makes it self-sufficient in terms of agricultural produce and green vegetables. In terms of church administration, it falls under the Lungsen Section.

In the past, there were occasional individual UPC members residing there due to work, but there was no formal church organization. Toward the end of the year 2000, while Lunglei District P.Y.D. was hosting the General P.Y.D. Conference, members of the Headquarters Section P.Y.D. organized a voluntary community work project cutting bamboo. While taking a rest in Phairuang village, Headquarters Section P.Y.D. President Upa H. Lalhmangaiha and Bro. Malsawmtluanga noticed a sign above the door of a house reading 'Jesus Only', and they entered the home. Upon realizing that the occupants were UPC believers, they discussed ways forward for church organization. Then in January 2001, nearly 100 Headquarters Section P.Y.D. members, providing their own food and provisions, traveled down in buses and various available vehicles to spend Sunday there, returning home after the evening service. Following this, the Headquarters Section P.Y.D. and Missions Department jointly organized a Crusade with Headquarters Section Pastor Rev. P.C. Doliana as the speaker. Subsequently, on April 29, 2001, under the leadership of Rev. P.C. Doliana and Pastor C. Lalrintluanga, the beloved Phairuangkai Church was officially established.

At the time of its establishment, the church had 12 male members and 13 female members, totaling 25 members. Official church leaders were appointed immediately, with the initial leaders being as follows:

After gathering for worship in private homes without a dedicated church building for about a year, construction began at its current site on Forest Department land with permission from officials. Built with the zeal and support of various local churches in Lunglei, the founding Pastor Rev. P.C. Doliana officially inaugurated and dedicated the church building to God on February 18, 2007, an event celebrated joyfully with a community feast.

Old Church Building:

The church land was initially used under temporary permission from the Forest Department, and a VC pass was obtained later. The construction of the Church Building was funded by the Lunglei District Headquarters Section Mission Department, and local members worked enthusiastically through voluntary labor. In 2002, the UPC Phairuangkai church building was constructed and occupied that same year. Currently, the Land Lease documentation has been officially finalized.

New Church Building:

Because the initial church building was relatively small and the church membership continued to grow, a bank loan of Rs. 20,000/- was taken. Along with member contributions, funds were raised by collecting river snails, harvesting crabs, clearing gardens, quarrying stone, and carrying firewood. Reusing some materials from the old building, reconstruction was undertaken in 2007. In the same year, the church hosted the Section Main Church Conference, and to mark the occasion, an inauguration programme was held and the building was immediately occupied.
