About Lungsen North Local
Lungsen North Local :
When the Pentecostal Church was being established in various parts of Zoram, a desire to establish a Pentecostal Church also arose in the hearts of some local believers. The first committee meeting aimed at establishing the church was held in early January 1960 at the residence of Pu Vanthanga. At that time, Pu Vanthanga's plot of land was the very site where the present Pastor's Quarters stands. Pu Lawmkunga purchased the house plot from Pu Vanthanga, and Pastor Lalthima subsequently bought it from Pu Lawmkunga. Later, the Church purchased the land from Pastor Lalthima to serve as the Pastor's Quarters, and to this day, it continues to be utilized as the Pastor's Quarters for the Lungsen Section UPC.
During the initial committee meeting held for establishing the church, the church could not be formally established immediately. Consequently, a second committee meeting was convened the following evening. On that night, January 17, 1960, the 'United Pentecostal Church, Lungsen Local' was officially established.
Regarding the history of the church's formation and its early leaders, there were slight variations in different accounts. This matter was thoroughly re-investigated on multiple occasions by interviewing surviving individuals from that period and those knowledgeable about the events. Based on their accounts, the Local Church Board carefully evaluated, studied, and deliberated on the details to ascertain the most accurate history. Therefore, the record documented here represents what is considered the most accurate and accepted historical account.

At the time of its establishment, the church had around 50 initial members. Since they did not yet have a church building, services were held at the home of Pu Thladoluma (located behind the present church building). Shortly after the establishment of the church, arrangements were made to build a church structure; hardwood posts (thingril) were used for the pillars, thatch grass (Di) for the roof, woven bamboo mats (Dap Malkalh) for the walls, and bound whole bamboo poles were used as seating benches.
A short time later, Pastor Laltluanga, accompanied by about 20 people, visited this newly established church, and worship services were held at the house of Pu Monea. During this visit, Pastor Laltluanga officially appointed the initial church leaders. On the day these leaders were appointed, a baptismal service was held at the lower end of Pu Biakluaia's garden. A prayer of dedication for the newly appointed leaders was offered by Pu Liankhuma, father of Pastor Laltluanga. At that time, no other church departments had been established yet, though the PYD (Conqueror) was later formed in 1964. The church membership gradually grew, but with the outbreak of political insurgency (rambuai), detailed records regarding subsequent leaders could not be properly maintained or traced.
Currently, Lungsen North Local has commenced the construction of a new church building. On October 28, 2025, the Section Pastor, Pastor Zion Rammawia, laid the foundation stone, and construction work began immediately. The dimensions of the church building are 60 ft in length and 42 ft in width (with a gallery), with an estimated budget of Rs 63.5 Lakhs (Nuai 63.5).
At present, Lungsen North Local has a total membership of 204 (as of 2025).
