About CHERHLUN SECTION
1. Initiatives for the Formation of the Section:
Cherhlun Section was formerly part of Hnahthial Section. In 1976, Thingsai Section was separated from Hnahthial Section, and the Thingsai Section Pastor Quarters was later shifted to Cherhlun, after which it came to be known as Cherhlun Section. While there were key instrumental figures involved in establishing the Section, full details cannot be presented due to the lack of official records.
2. Establishment of the Section:
Cherhlun Section was resolved to be inaugurated by the decision of 18th December 1967, comprising the following Local Churches within the Section – Cherhlun, Thingsai, S. Chawngtui, Ngharchhip, and Bualpui ‘H’. (Kohhran Chanchin by Rev CS. Pachhunga, Page 289).
As time passed, Thingsai Section was inaugurated on 1st April 1976, and Cherhlun Section was merged back into Thingsai Section. In 1983, the Thingsai Section Pastor Quarters was relocated back to Cherhlun, and from 1st June 1983, it was designated as Cherhlun Section. Currently, there are four (4) Local Churches within the Section – Cherhlun Local (Section Hrqs.), New Ngharchhip Local, Khawhri Local, and S. Chawngtui Local, with a total membership of 665 (as reported on the half-yearly report 2021).
4. Regarding the Pastor Quarters:
The Thingsai Section Pastor Quarters was relocated to Cherhlun, and on 1st June 1983, Rev. C. Darnghaka assumed office as the Section Pastor. Initially, Elder P. Lalthanzuala's residence was rented for the Pastor Quarters, after which the Cherhlun Forest Quarters was occupied. From there, it was moved down to the present Quarters site, occupying the existing building starting from 1983. On 9th March 1991, the Section Conference resolved to install wall tiles. It continued to be occupied until 2011, when a new Quarters building was constructed as a semi-concrete structure measuring 36ft in length and 24ft in width. The current Quarters building has been occupied since 2012.
The Pastor Quarters has been continuously upgraded as far as possible, with the lower floor developed, and through the combined efforts of the Section Main Church, Section Departments, and various Local Churches, the Quarters premises and its surroundings have been significantly well-maintained.
