SECTION FORMATION HISTORY :

S. Vanlaiphai is located approximately 98 Km (eastward) from Lunglei, and there are currently three locals within the section: S. Vanlaiphai, Muallianpui, and Darzo. The S. Vanlaiphai Church was established in December 1962 under the leadership of Pu F. Rualzakhuma and Pu Tawnliana Khawlhring. During those times, Darzo Local had not been established yet. Although it had been opened as a section occasionally in the early days, due to the small number of church members, having only two locals, and various weaknesses, it was difficult for the section to function, so it was placed under Hnahthial section.

As time went on, Darzo Local was established in 2008. The Lunglei District Conference held on 28th February 2015 passed Resolution No. 11: 'Using S. Vanlaiphai Local as the Section Centre, a new section shall be opened across Tuipui river'. The 179th District Board on 3rd March 2015, Resolution No. 13, resolved its geographical coverage, the Section Secretary and Treasurer, and the inauguration date. On 3rd May 2015, it was inaugurated as 'S. Vanlaiphai Section', separating from Hnahthial Section.

On 3rd May 2015, Lunglei District Superintendent, Rev. C. Darkhuma, attended and officiated the Section Inauguration Programme at S. Vanlaiphai Local Church, accompanied by Hnahthial Section Pastor Rev. C. Lalrintluanga, Hnahthial section leaders, and several members. An Induction Service was immediately held for Pastor Jerry Lalmuanawma to become the first Section Pastor. Although the Hnahthial section side felt sad to part, they strongly agreed with and congratulated the separation, presenting monetary gifts of goodwill as well.

On the afternoon of the inauguration day, 3rd May 2015, the first Section Board was held, attended by District Superintendent Rev. C. Darkhuma and Hnahthial Section Pastor, Rev. C. Lalrintluanga. Elections for the Section Department Office Bearers (Dept. O.B) for 2015–2016 were conducted, fully attended by LAD and PYD OBs from various locals within the section as well as the main Section Church OBs. The first Section Conference was held on 22–24 January 2016 at South Vanlaiphai, attended by Rev. C. Darkhuma, District Superintendent.

Regarding Pastor Quarters :

Before the new S. Vanlaiphai Section was opened, because Home Missionaries had previously resided there, an Assam Type Quarters was already available within the Church Compound, where the family of the first Section Pastor, Pastor Jerry Lalmuanawma, resided upon the inauguration of the new section. As time went on, while preparations were being made to build a Pastor Quarters, a convenient plot of land along the main road belonging to Pu F. Sangluaia (Vengpui area) was purchased for Rs. 1,00,000 (one lakh) after mutual agreement with our leaders.

Construction process :

Fortunately, the 182nd District Board, Resolution No. 4, resolved: 'Pastor Quarters shall henceforth be constructed entirely using District funds, and the S. Vanlaiphai Pastor Quarter shall be constructed in 2016'. On 25th January 2016, Rev. C. Darkhuma, District Superintendent, laid the foundation stone, and on 18th February 2016, the first section-wide voluntary work (hnatlang) was held to dig post holes, initiating the construction work. At that time, it was constructed spending over 12 Lakhs under the management of the Building & Property Committee, Lunglei District. On 16th July 2016, Rev. R. Lalrosanga, District Superintendent, inaugurated it, and a section-wide feast was held. At the time of writing this report in 2025, there are currently 242 section members.
