About LUNGSEN SECTION

Lungsen :

Lungsen is situated within Lunglei District, to the west of Lunglei town along the Lunglei–Tlabung highway, located 57 KM away from Lunglei. It features a pleasant location and landscape and functions under the administrative jurisdiction of a Block Development Officer (BDO). As of 2023, Lungsen village comprises over 550 households with a population of nearly 2,700 inhabitants. In terms of education, it boasts a literacy rate of 84.73%. Within Lungsen village, there are two local churches under the UPC NEI.

Establishment of Lungsen Section :

Lungsen Section stands as one of the oldest sections in Lunglei District. It was established as a section long before Lunglei District was partitioned. Around the 1960s, the UPC Church had only a single pastor, Rev. Lalthima, overseeing the vast territory extending from Lunglei District down to Saiha. As the church rapidly grew and new local churches emerged across various villages, serving as a single pastor became exceedingly overwhelming. Consequently, a request was submitted to the General Conference to grant at least two pastors. In 1962, an additional pastor, Rev. Hrangchhina, was appointed for the southern region. The Southern Circle Board designated the western area of Lunglei as his section and chose Lungsen as his station. On June 20, 1962, he officially took up residence there, and this exact date is recognized as the foundation day of Lungsen Section.

Pastor's Quarters :

In 1962, during Rev. Hrangchhina's tenure, the current Pastor's Quarters land was purchased. In 1972, during Rev. Lalthima's first year of service, he personally acquired adjacent land next to the quarters. Later in 1977, upon Rev. Lalthima's departure, the church redeemed his land plot, thereby securing the complete Quarters property as it exists today.

Original Jurisdiction :

When Lungsen Section was first formed, its jurisdiction encompassed the regions extending toward Tlabung and Chawngte. Through God's rich blessings, the ministry of the pastors and church workers flourished remarkably across the region, resulting in rapid numerical growth among church members.

Sections Formed from Lungsen Section :

Chawngte Section :
Resolution No. 2 of the 14th Lunglei District Conference held in 1979 established a new section centered at Chawngte, carving it out from Lungsen Section that same year.

Tlabung Section :
Resolution No. 9 of the 40th District Conference in 2005 bifurcated Lungsen Section to inaugurate another new section centered at Tlabung.

Zawlpui Section :
Resolution No. 1 of the 49th District Conference in 2014 established a new section centered at Zawlpui. During this reorganization, two local churches belonging to Lungsen Section—Belthei and Putlungasih—were transferred to Zawlpui Section.
