The Lunglei District Music Committee was established to encourage and uplift Gospel singers, individuals, Section Choirs, and Local Choirs within the Pentecostal Church in Lunglei District so that they may continue to grow.
A Music Committee had already existed for a long time as a subcommittee under the Lunglei District PYD. Over time, for convenience and greater effectiveness, it was brought directly under the main Lunglei District Church Administration.
Consequently, on December 8, 2020, during the 20th District Board Meeting of the main church body, the first leaders of the District Music Committee were appointed under Resolution No. 16 as follows:
2021 - 2022 Leaders:
Chairman : Rev. PC. Nghakliana
Vice Chairman : Upa C. Lalhmangaiha
Secretary : Evan. R. Lalnunthara
Asst Secretary : Evan. Lalrinmawia
Treasurer : Rev. C. Lalrintluanga (District Treasurer)
Ex Officio : District Superintendent
2023 - 2024 Leaders:
Chairman : Rev. C. Lalhriatpuia
Vice Chairman : Upa Lallawmawma
Secretary : Rbt. Lalruatkima Hrahsel
Asst Secretary : Sist. Vanlalpari Ralte
Treasurer : Rbt. H. Lalpianfela
Ex Officio : District Superintendent
2025 - 2026 Leaders:
Chairman : Rev. C. Lalhriatpuia
Secretary : Rbt. Lalruatkima Hrahsel
Treasurer : Rbt. H. Lalpianfela
(In this term, Office Bearers were not expanded.)
Shortly after the main church body took over the Music Committee, activities were temporarily disrupted due to Covid-19. However, as the pandemic subsided, initiatives resumed smoothly, and the following activities have been carried out to date:
1. The choir formerly known as the District PYD Choir was officially renamed the Lunglei District UPC Choir in 2021 upon being taken over by the main church body, and their various needs continue to be supported as much as possible.
2. All musicians and singers in Lunglei District—including Presbytery Choirs, Local Choirs, and individual artists who wish to join—are registered under the Lunglei District Music Committee, and care plans are drawn up for them. Currently, the following are registered under the committee:
- District UPC Choir : 1
- Section Choirs : 7
- Local Choirs : 6
- Soloists : 95
For District-level conferences and programs, the District Music Committee appoints the choirs and soloists to perform.
3. Various musical instruments and sound systems have been renovated and expanded, serving effectively in key Church programs and whenever needed.
4. A Worship Team and House Band were established to lead praise and worship and play music during various District-level events.
5. Basic Tonic Sol-fa lessons were included in the PCD curriculum.
6. Khuang (drum) players and Solfa Trainers have been appointed to be dispatched whenever local churches require their services.
7. Leaders of the District Music Committee visit Presbytery Choirs during their music practices to encourage them and provide refreshments.
8. On November 4–5, 2023, a Music Festival was organized at the Electric Veng Local UPC Church in collaboration with the District PYD, featuring choir and solo performances alongside Praise and Worship sessions.
9. On September 28–29, 2024, another Music Festival was held at the Convention Centre, featuring Solo and Lengkhawm Zai competitions along with Praise and Worship sessions.

Since the establishment of the Lunglei District Music Committee, the number of Gospel singers has grown, and their maturity in ministry continues to develop. Encouragement and support are continuously provided to form new Local and Presbytery Choirs wherever possible. Furthermore, individual artists are continually advised to be mindful of their conduct and attire, and to remain pure from tobacco, betel nut, alcohol, and substance abuse.
