HISTORY OF LUNGLAWN ZAIA VENG LOCAL

The U.P.C Church in Lunglawn village is believed to have been established around 1955. Sis. Darnghilhlovi leased her land for building a church, and the church construction began immediately. In 1956, the Pastor officially inaugurated the church building, and in the same year, the church was formally organized. The church leaders at that time were as follows:

In 1957, Pastor Lalbiakthanga of Biate conducted ministry work in Lunglawn, during which Sis. Lalhmingthangi, daughter of the Chief of Lunglawn, was baptized in the name of Jesus. Following this ministry, in 1958, the Chief of Lunglawn, Tawnluaia Zadeng, and his wife were also baptized in the name of Jesus. In addition to them, Mr. Kailiana and his wife, Mrs. Sapi, and Mr. Saitawna joined the church, bringing the total membership to around 70 at that time. (This is according to Sis. Lalhmingthangi, daughter of the Chief of Lunglawn).

While the congregation was united and rejoicing together, differences of opinion arose among the church leaders regarding spiritual revival/expressions. As a result, the church members could no longer worship together in one place. Mr. C. Thangchema, who worked in the Revenue Department, arranged a better plot of land in exchange for Mr. Thangtawna's plot at AOC—where the current AOC church stands. Mr. Thangtawna agreed to the exchange, leading to the establishment of Lunglawn-II (now Ramthar AOC Church). Consequently, a good number of church members began worshipping separately.

Following this division, the original Lunglawn Church could no longer sustain itself and eventually dissolved. After worshipping together harmoniously at AOC (now Ramthar Local) for some time, members residing in Lunglawn and nearby localities felt it was more convenient to establish a separate local church in Lunglawn. Upon hearing this initiative, Mr. R. Zaikunga informed the then District Pastor Rev. P.C. Rosanga of Chanmari District that he intended to donate a plot of land for the church in memory of his mother, Sis. Laizami. This greatly encouraged those desiring to form a new local church.

To deliberate on forming the new church, a General Meeting was held on June 13, 1993 (Sunday) at Ramthar AOC Church, chaired by District Pastor Rev. P.C. Rosanga, with 23 members in attendance. The attendees unanimously passed the resolution to separate and form the new local church. They also unanimously approved the name LUNGLAWN U.P.C.

The inauguration of the new church was held on the evening of June 14, 1993 (Monday) at the home of Bro. H. Rohmingliana in Pangkai Veng, Lunglawn. The service was chaired by District Pastor Rev. Church Building Construction

Church construction continued to progress as much as possible. After completion, a farewell service was held on the evening of May 15, 1996 (Saturday) at the residence of Bro. H. Rohmingliana, where services had been hosted prior to having a dedicated church building. Subsequently, on June 16, 1996 (Sunday), District Pastor Rev. C. Darkhuma officially inaugurated the church building. The total expenditure for the building construction was Rs. 35,537.50/-.

Numerous donations were received for the construction of the church. The donors were:

  • Bro. H. Rohmingliana - Rs. 1000/-
  • From District Headquarter - Rs. 3,500/-
  • Evan. Lalzuithanga, Venglai - Rs. 500/-
  • Evan. Zopianga, Chanmari - Rs. 300/-
  • Bro. T. Lalsanga - Rs. 100/-
  • Elder Lalsanga, AOC - Rs. 100/-

  • Sis. Engzami - 1 kg Sugar and Tea leaves
  • Bro. T. Lalsanga - 1 kg Sugar and Rs. 100/-

After occupying the church building, the following donations were also received:

  1. From Mr. R. Zaikunga: Aside from the land, one big drum (khuangpui) and a blackboard.
  2. From Mr. F. Sapa, Ex-M.L.A.: A Petromax lamp.
  3. From Mr. F. Lalzuala, M.L.A.: A guitar.
  4. From Bro. C. Zohmingmawia: Two offering collection bags and a tea tray.
  5. From Bro. F. Khualluta: One Pulpit Chair and a Notice board.
  6. From Ramthar A.O.C. Church: 6 Benches and a drum stand.

After moving into the new church building, due to trials and conflicts, the church faced various difficulties. A section of members even observed Good Friday separately. Despite efforts by District Leaders to bring reconciliation, true unity could not be achieved, leading to several members leaving to align with the Mizoram U.P.C. faction.

Despite the severe challenges and difficulties faced by the Lunglawn (Zaia Veng) Local Church, God did not allow His church to perish and continuously appointed faithful believers who loved Him and His church to rebuild it. Even as some members left, the Lord continuously blessed the church with good members. Furthermore, by the year 2007, a resolution was passed to construct a new church building. The Lord blessed the dedication of the church members; through taking loans and collective effort, a new structure measuring 54ft in length and 27ft in width was completed and made ready for worship. Experiencing God's guidance and blessings, the church made significant progress spiritually, financially, and in terms of assets and properties. On June 13, 2018, the church celebrated its 25th Anniversary (Silver Jubilee).

Following the finalization and handover of charges for the 2021–2022 Church and Department leaders, a major issue arose concerning the RELOCATION OF THE CHURCH LAND. Due to differences in opinion, a group of members initiated steps to split and form a new local church. Collecting names of those desiring to split, they submitted an application for church division to District Pastor Rev. Lalbiakdika Chawhte of Luangmual District. After deliberation by the Luangmual District Section Board, their request was approved, and the proposed name TLANGNUAM LOCAL, LUNGLAWN was granted.

After the name was approved, they subsequently petitioned the Section Board to change their name. The Section Board reconsidered the request and allowed TLANGNUAM LOCAL to be changed to LUNGLAWN LOCAL. Consequently, the inauguration of Lunglawn Local Church was held on February 20, 2021 (Saturday) at the residence of Mr. H. Lalnunmawia by District Pastor Rev. Lalbiakdika Chawhte. Around 80 members separated from Lunglawn Zaia Veng Local to join Lunglawn Local, while around 132 members remained at the main church building. Due to this church division, leadership positions for 2021–2022 had to be reconstituted. On February 16, 2021 (Tuesday), a Local Church Board Meeting was held under the leadership of the District Pastor, where new Elders and Church Workers were appointed, and vacant posts were filled.
