About NEW HAULAWNG LOCAL
ABOUT NEW HAULAWNG VILLAGE
New Haulawng is a sub-village (khawper) of Haulawng, located 3 km north of Haulawng village along the Aizawl main highway. It functions under the jurisdiction of the Haulawng Village Council (VC). Settlers gathered and constructed homes here migrating from Haulawng Lalveng in the year 1992.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CHURCH
For a considerable time, residents traveled to attend services at Haulawng Lalveng. However, due to the significant distance between localities, starting from 1994, believers began gathering locally in joint services alongside the Baptist congregation. As time progressed, differences in doctrinal beliefs made continued joint worship difficult. Consequently, following the morning service on February 16, 1996 (Sunday), the UPC believers separated. The common fund collected during their joint fellowship was divided, with the UPC congregation receiving Rs. 201.25.
Shortly thereafter, feeling unable to sustain independent services, they returned to worship at Haulawng Lalveng. The Haulawng Lalveng church received them with great open-mindedness and fully recognized those who had served as ministers during the joint fellowship as full-fledged church officers.
Over time, traveling the distance for worship services remained difficult. Gathering together, the local believers felt it was best to establish an independent local church. Thus, the United Pentecostal Church, New Haulawng, was established on February 5, 2005. Becoming a full local church immediately, the then Haulawng Section Pastor, Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte, officially formed the local church. At that time, the church comprised 25 members and had only four (4) ordained officers at its inception.
Although a small and fledgling church, because they were migrants and offshoots from Haulawng Lalveng Local, the Haulawng Lalveng church showed immense love, care, and support towards them.
PIONEER LEADERS
The initial church leaders at the time of establishment were as follows:
- Chairman : Elder R. Laldingliana
- Secretary : Elder B. Rosanga
- Treasurer : Rbt. R. Lalkhuma
CHRONOLOGY OF CHURCH BUILDINGS
Since a dedicated church building was not available at the time of formation, worship services were initially held at the residence of Chairman Elder R. Laldingliana. Although the host family was extremely welcoming and devoted, gathering without a dedicated house of worship could not continue indefinitely; hence, initiatives were undertaken to construct a church building.
- 1st Church Building : Construction of the first church building commenced with Section Pastor Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte laying the foundation stone. It was designed with dimensions of 30 feet in length and 18 feet in width. Despite having a small membership, the congregation was united and enthusiastic, successfully completing a standard Assam-type structure under the Lord's guidance. (Subsequently, on the evening of Good Friday Eve, April 13, 2006, Evan. R. Lalthlamuana and Bro. Valthanmawia led the congregation into occupying the building while conducting the Holy Communion sacrament.) On April 5, 2007 (Good Friday Eve, during Communion service), Section Pastor Rev. PC. Lalrosanga, District Mission Director, formally inaugurated and dedicated the sanctuary to God, after which the congregation officially occupied it.
-
2nd Church Building : Through God's grace, membership steadily grew to the point where full attendance exceeded the capacity of the building. Consequently, the decision was made to reconstruct the sanctuary, and on January 10, 2016, the Church Board Committee established a Building Board. The church then actively raised funds through various means.
On March 3, 2018, Section Pastor Rev. C. Hmingthanfala laid the foundation stone to begin construction anew. The new sanctuary was designed as a reinforced concrete (RCC) structure measuring 40 feet in length and 22 feet in width. Although not yet fully completed, it has been beautifully framed into shape and is currently occupied for worship while construction continues. By God's grace, the congregation looks forward to a grand official inauguration.
