About NEW NGHARCHHIP LOCAL

INITIATIVES FOR CHURCH FORMATION

Around 1992–1994 in New Ngharchhip, ministry work was carried out under the leadership of Rev. PC. Doliana, during which several individuals received water baptism. However, an official church could not be fully established at that time. As time went on, crusades were periodically conducted through the initiatives of the Cherhlun District church leadership.

In the year 2000, another crusade was organized by the District, with Evan. C. Vanlalena from Haulawng serving as the speaker, accompanied by Bro. Zothanmawia. On May 13, 2000, several believers from Cherhlun traveled down to initiate the fourth crusade phase, held at the YMA Hall. Due to persistent obstacles, the crusade experienced about three brief interruptions before finally concluding on July 13, 2000.

During the crusade, Rualuka arrived from Burma to engage in a formal debate with Speaker Evan. C. Vanlalena. On June 12, 2000, the debate took place at the New Ngharchhip BCM Church building. That same evening, the first baptism service was conducted, and six individuals were baptized in the name of Jesus.

On July 10, 2000, the church was officially organized. To celebrate the occasion, Elder C. Lalchangliana of Cherhlun donated a pig, and Pu Vanlalmuana of New Ngharchhip (not a church member) donated a cow. A service of thanksgiving and praise was observed, followed by a fellowship singing gathering at the residence of Pu Vanlalmuana. Membership enrollment was conducted, with 19 individuals officially registering as members of the Pentecostal Church.

ACQUISITION AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHURCH BUILDING

Initially, land for the church building could not be secured from the village council. During the District Missions Conference held at Rahsiveng, an offering was raised for constructing a church in New Ngharchhip, generating Rs. 33,000/-. Subsequently, on October 24, 2000, a plot of land owned by Pu Lalkhuma of New Ngharchhip was purchased for Rs. 10,000/-.

On October 25, 2000, site excavation began with around 30 volunteers from Cherhlun. Excavation was completed on November 7, 2000, and Rev. R. Lalrosanga laid the foundation stone. Construction proceeded immediately with generous contributions: Bro. CR. Chuailova (Bazar) donated 32 wall tiles, Evan. R. Kawlthuama (Bazar) donated 6 pairs of window frames, and the District Church provided corrugated iron sheets. Evan. C. Vanlalduha (Rahsiveng) offered his vehicle (407 model) to transport materials. Construction finished on October 28, 2001, and the church was inaugurated by Rev. Zalawma, District Superintendent. This building remained in use until 2017.

To construct a second church building, the 49th Lunglei District PYD Conference at Zobawk resolved to build a church in the Home Missions Field, which was reaffirmed by the District PYD Board for New Ngharchhip. An offering collected during the conference along with District PYD funds provided Rs. 3,00,000/-.

Rev. R. Lalrosanga (District Superintendent), Evan. K. Lalnunpuia (District PYD Secretary), and Bro. Lalrindika (District PYD Financial Secretary) visited the site, where Rev. R. Lalrosanga laid the foundation stone on June 10, 2017. Many dedicated individuals supported the effort: the District Church contributed Rs. 1,00,000/-, Elder PC. Lalduhthlanga (Pukpui) sponsored roofing fasteners, and the Ramthar Local PYD provided the ceiling. A new pulpit was provided by Bro. Lalrokima Chhangte and his friends. Work camps were also organized by volunteers from within and outside the district (Thingsai District). Upon completion, the 44th Cherhlun Section Conference was hosted at New Ngharchhip Local, during which Rev. C. Vanlalena officially inaugurated the building on February 7, 2020, marked by a community feast.
