HOW THE CHURCH WAS ESTABLISHED :

In Zobawk village, the UPC light has been burning continuously without going out since April 1967. The village spans a long linear stretch, and two local churches—Zobawk Local and Immanuel Local in the western/lower section—were already established. At that time, since no UPC church had been established in the newer Vengthar section, the need to establish one was felt strongly. Consequently, steps were taken to establish a UPC church in the Vengthar section.

On Sunday, April 2, 2017, a worship service to establish the new church was held at the residence of Pu Lalrothara (BCM), rented for Rs. 2,000 per month, presided over by Rev. R. Lalrosanga, Lunglei District UPC Superintendent. Rev. VL. Hmuaka, District Pastor of Theiriat District, along with other district leaders, joined the service. When considering a name for the new church, Rev. R. Lalrosanga designated, "'United Pentecostal Church of Northeast India, Zobawk Vengthar Local'", which officially became the name of the newly established church.

For the new church, District Pastor Rev. VL. Hmuaka immediately formed the leadership team, appointing the following initial leaders:

This day marked the very first worship service of Zobawk Vengthar Local (NEI). Rev. R. Lalrosanga inaugurated the service for us, accompanied by District Pastor Rev. VL. Hmuaka. The Lord enabled us to start joyfully with spiritual songs. The church members were truly grateful, and we will never forget it.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHURCH BUILDING :

Following the establishment of the church, a search for church land was initiated. A plot of land (LSC) belonging to Pu H. Lalawmpuia and Pu Lalthlangliana Sailo was negotiated for purchase, and in accordance with Lunglei District UPC guidelines, the land for the church building was purchased by the District for Rs. 1,80,000. For the building construction, a loan of Rs. 5,00,000 was taken from Apex Bank. On Monday, March 5, 2018, community voluntary work (hnatlang) was held for the first time to begin digging foundation pillar holes. District Superintendent Rev. R. Lalrosanga was invited to lay the foundation stone, accompanied by Rev. C. Vanlalena (District Secretary) and Rev. C. Lalrintluanga (District Treasurer).

While church construction was progressing vigorously, building grant assistance was requested as permitted by District guidelines, and Rs. 1,00,000 was received, for which the congregation was deeply grateful.

By Saturday evening, December 1, 2018, although the church building was not fully completed, the congregation began using it for services out of necessity. Subsequently, an additional loan of Rs. 15,00,000 was secured from Apex Bank, Zobawk Branch. Construction continued, and on October 21, 2023, District Pastor Rev. K. Lalchhuansanga officially inaugurated the church building, which was celebrated joyfully with a feast.

At the time of preparing this report (2025), the church has 73 members. Zobawk Vengthar Local is a united and vibrant congregation that deeply reveres and actively fosters the presence and work of the Holy Spirit. Currently, they are constructing a fine Sunday School Hall, above which they intend to locate a Committee Hall.
