Origin and Establishment of the Church

Thingfal village is located in Lunglei District along the southern road toward Lawngtlai, functioning as a fairly large village. Around the year 1964, when only the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM) was established in the village, both BCM and the United Pentecostal Church (UPC - Pa Pawl) held concurrent annual conferences in Mualcheng South. Members of the BCM Thingfal choir attended the event, during which choir leader Pu PC. Lalbana (Thimbura) was moved by the Holy Spirit to recognize the necessity of baptism, subsequently receiving baptism in the name of Jesus from Rev. Ralianga.

Following this event, the UPC was officially established in Thingfal village on April 25, 1965. Similar to other locations, the early believers faced significant contempt and opposition. Lacking a dedicated church building or land, worship services were initially conducted at the residence of Pu Lalbana. Pu PC. Lalbana maintained faith that the current church land was granted by the Lord through spiritual revelation. In time, through the initiatives of Rev. T. Tumsanga and during the tenure of Pu Manthanga over PWD Thingfal Section, the property was successfully acquired.

Development of Church Buildings

Securing church land was initially challenging. However, through dedicated members and Rev. T. Tumsanga's liaison with administrative departments, the present compound spiritually designated by Pu PC. Lalbana was formally secured. Approximately one year after establishment, the first church building was constructed in 1966 using woven bamboo walls, wooden posts, and a thatched roof.

Including the ongoing construction, the local church building has undergone reconstruction 6 times to date.

In 1993, Thingfal Local underwent a division resulting in the formation of Dinthar UPC, causing a split within UPC (NEI) Thingfal Local. Over time, several members of Dinthar Local migrated toward Zoram in 2001, though some eventually returned after facing considerable hardships.

Through the labor, dedication, and steadfast trust in the Holy Spirit by pioneer leaders, the present congregation continues to reap the fruits of their foundation.

Present Status

Thingfal Local Church currently has 235 members according to the 2025 report. The foundation stone for the current church project was laid on June 29, 2024, by Sectional Pastor Rev. R. Vanlalenga. Worship services are currently held on the lower ground floor (designated for the future Sunday School Hall) while construction progresses. Total expenditure for the double-story 70 × 32 feet structure is estimated to exceed ₹50 Lakhs.
