Local History and Establishment

Chawnpui Local is situated in a locality within Tlabung town, formed as a branch church from Zodin Local UPC. It was organized on September 19, 1999, by Pastor MS Dawngliana. At the time of its inception, the local church had 70 members.

The first leaders were as follows:

• Chairman : Elder Vanlalnghaka
• Secretary/Treasurer : Elder Sangtura

At the time of their establishment, they did not have a church building, so they exerted every effort to construct one. Construction work began in the year 2000, and within that same year, a church building measuring 30’x15’ was completed and ready for use. In 2022, through the initiative of the District LAD and District Main Church, an RCC church building was successfully constructed.

Development of the New Church Building

Regarding the current RCC church building, as Chawnpui Local had a small membership, Chawnpui was selected for the church construction project in accordance with a resolution passed at the District LAD Conference. Tlabung Section expressed great gratitude for this church construction project. Members across the section were enthusiastic and contributed immense labor and energy. Elder Zohmingthanga, Treasurer of Chawnpui Local, contributed significantly by providing gravel, stones, and wooden planks for pillar and beam boxes. He also donated Rs. 50,000 specifically for the aluminium window frames. Furthermore, Elder P. Vanlalbuka, who was the Section Treasurer during the construction period, actively managed and handled the finances with great dedication.

Current Status

Chawnpui Local currently has 43 members (as of 2025). The dimensions of the church building are 40x18 feet. The foundation stone of the church was laid by Pastor R. Lalremsiama, the Sectional Pastor, and construction took place in 2022. It was built jointly through the efforts of the District LAD and the District Main Church, with a total grant of Rs. 5,50,000 received for the construction. The church building was officially inaugurated by Pastor R. Lalremsiama.
