About KIKAWN LOCAL
HISTORY OF KIKAWN LOCAL
Although Kikawn Local UPC had previously held repeated joint gatherings, their official separate worship service recognized by District Headquarters, led by the Section Pastor, took place on April 12, 1995 (Wednesday evening). Counting from this date, April 12, 2020 marked the Silver Jubilee. While the church was preparing vigorously to celebrate, the celebration Programme could not be held on time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which we deeply regret. At the beginning of the church's separation, there were about 14 families and around 76 members.
Early Church Leaders:
On the evening of April 12, 1995 (Wednesday), Kikawn Local Church was formed at the residence of Sist. Rohmingthangi, Kikawn, led by Section Pastor C. Darnghaka. The following were the very first leaders:
Chairman : Elder Laldawla
Vice Chairman : Elder C. Thanglaia
Secretary : Bro Ramfanzauva
Treasurer : Elder PC. Pakunga
Elders:
Elder PC. Pakunga, Elder C. Rohlira, Elder Laldawla, and Elder Thanglaia.
Church Workers:
CR. Lalchuailova, C. Vanlalpianglawma, R. Lalramfawni, and Vanlalzamveli. Elder C. Rohlira was also appointed as the Elder delegate to the District Conference.
Development of the Church Building: The first church building was occupied in the basement of a private house, walled completely with bamboo mats. The first church building was then constructed above the courtyard of what is now Pu PC. Liantluanga's residence. Following this, the plot of Pu CR. Lalchuailova was purchased for 10 Lakhs rupees, and the church relocated to the current Concrete Building. The foundation stone for this church building construction site was laid by Section Pastor Rev. Ralkapkunga Khiangte on March 20, 2018. The building currently occupied is actually intended to serve as the Sunday School Hall for now, and plans are underway to continue constructing the actual Church Building above it.
Present Status: Kikawn Local currently has 182 members (2025 report). At present, there are 4 Elders, 3 Church Workers, 1 License Holder, 1 Bible Woman, and 1 Sr. Elder. Plans for constructing the church building are currently progressing. In the meantime, they are holding services in a comfortable Sunday School Hall beneath the church ground.
