HISTORY OF RAWPUI LOCAL

The founder, Bro. Tlangbawiha (L), resided in Keltan village in Lunglei District, situated towards the lower west of present S. Chawngtui village (Keltan village no longer exists today). There, he received a divine call from God in a dream saying, "Arise, go to the north, and build my granary." Following this calling, he migrated to Rawpui village in 1954. After settling there for a short period, they held worship services in their homes without any formal church organization. Subsequently, on October 15, 1955, the church was formally established under the leadership of Rev. Lalthima, and from then on, the church functioned in an organized manner.

At the time of inception, there were 23 members, and Christmas celebrations began in 1955.

The construction of the very first church building began in 1956, and it was occupied for 10 years. The current church building began construction on September 16, 2014, measuring 58 ft in length (including the gallery) and 27 ft in width.

On the evening service of October 15, 2025, the Platinum Jubilee (70th Anniversary) bell was rung. On October 18, 2025, the main Platinum Jubilee celebration was held, and Rev. R. Lalrosanga unveiled the Jubilee Monument. Additionally, on October 19, 2025, the Church Building Inauguration Programme was held, and the building was inaugurated by Rev. LH. Lalchhandama. The Sunday School Hall was also constructed as an Assam Type structure, measuring 24 ft in length and 15 ft in width.

Due to the 1966 political insurgency, Rawpui Local was regrouped at Bungtlang, and the members returned to Rawpui in 1974.
