About RAMRIKAWN LOCAL
HISTORY OF RAMRIKAWN LOCAL
Ramrikawn Local UPC was established in 1972 by some people from Hnahchang village who returned after the insurgency regrouping. The main leaders during its inception were:
Chairman : Thangzuala
Secretary : Thankima
Treasurer : Hmingthanga
1) Darchhunga
2) Raltawna
3) Zatawna
4) Haukhumi
5) Laiveti
Shortly thereafter, the church experienced various weaknesses and struggled to regularly occupy and maintain the church building for a short period. In 1983, Pu Saikhuma, a Lineman in the P&E Department, arrived, and together they renovated the dilapidated church building. In 1985, through the ministry of Pastor R. Lalrosanga, Pu PC. Lianhlira and his family received baptism and rejoined the church. In 1986, Pu PC Lianhlira was ordained as an Elder. In 1988, he was appointed as the Local Chairman, while Elder Vanlalngaia served as the Secretary. Later in 1995, Elder PC Lianhlira obtained a General License, and he continues to serve as the Chairman of Ramrikawn Local to this day.
Around Chapchar in 1989, Rev. Lerthasunga and his team conducted a Crusade in Ramrikawn. It was a very successful crusade that brought great joy to the community and deeply rooted the church members in the covenant. Shortly after this, Evan PC Rokima (College Veng, Lunglei) and his companions conducted ministry, during which Sist. Neihthangi and her family received the Covenant and joined the church.
During the period of church division around 1995, the majority of the members left to join the Mizoram UPC, causing significant upheaval within the church. Only three families were left to care for the church. Shortly afterwards in 1997, one of the main pillars of the church, Sist. Haukhumi, passed away to her eternal home, leaving only the families of Evan PC Lianhlira and Sist. Neihthangi to oversee and maintain the church.
In November 2001, Bro. Zothanzuala and his family relocated from Reiek to settle in Ramrikawn. Becoming very useful members in the church, he was subsequently appointed as the Church Secretary, a responsibility he still holds today. In 2006, Sist. Lianzami and her daughter joined the church; being a very dedicated member, she was appointed as the Church Treasurer.
The church building has been rebuilt about 4 times. Since the current building had become somewhat dilapidated, it was repaired again in 2016. The roofing was funded by the District Headquarters, while the retaining wall was constructed using Rs. 70,000/- provided by the Minister of the Constituency, along with their existing church balance to renovate the structure. Currently, the church is quite small and humble, with 21 members, overseen by one General License Holder.
