HISTORY OF CHURCH ESTABLISHMENT AND BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

In 1963-64, Pi Kapthangi and Pi Japanliani were among the earliest Church members. In 1966, at the onset of the political insurgency, Pu Lalmuana and his wife Pi Nuzawni received baptism under Pastor Chuauruma. In 1964, the family of Pu J. Thantluanga moved from Darngawn, along with other teacher families. During this time, they held worship services at the residence of Pu Thantluanga; however, they did not yet function as a fully organized Church. Land was purchased for a church building, which is the current Sub-Center location on the hill.

After staying in the forest for a year, they returned to the village in 1968, where they continued worshiping at Pu Lalmuana's home. In the same year, Pu Thanhranga, Pu Munga, and Pi Khawlliani joined the UPC. At that time, Pu Liantluanga and his wife were also residing there.

Between 1969 and 1971, the congregation was re-grouped, and after regrouping again in 1972, construction began on the first church building, measuring 20 feet in length and 15 feet in breadth. This stands on the same site as the current UPC church. Following this, proper Church organization was established and leaders were appointed.

Treasurer: Rbt. Chhuanvawra

The Church had around 15 members. Shortly after, in 1976, Pu Zomawia and his wife, along with Pi Thangzauvi, were baptized under Pastor Rodawla. Later, Pu Unianthanga, Pu Khawlrumliana and his wife, Pi Kapdaii, and Pi Rothangi with her children joined the church. Between 1982 and 1986, Pu F. Chhuana and Pu C. Rammawia also joined, leading to the reconstruction of the church building with dimensions of 24 feet by 15 feet.

Chairman: Elder Lalmuana
Secretary: Evan. Thanhranga
Treasurer: Rbt. Chhuanvawra
LAD President: Pi Nuzawni
LAD Secretary: Pi Khawlliani

In 1984, Pu Thanhranga passed away, and the Church continued to take proper shape. After a severe storm damaged the church building, it was rebuilt under the leadership of Pastor Zohmingliana, measuring 30 feet in length and 15 feet in breadth, with Pu Keuva donating 4 bundles of tin roofing sheets. This setup sustained the church through 1990 and for some time after. During this period, membership grew to over 30, and the Church progressed smoothly.

By 1984, Pu Zomawia served as an evangelist preacher, and the office of Church Chairman was served in rotation among him, Unianthanga, and Khawlrumliana. As time passed, some members migrated while others passed away, causing periodic declines in church strength. However, with the Lord's presence, the membership grew steadily, reaching about 70โ€“80 members around 2004.

However, during that period, adversary influences caused misunderstandings among leaders, between leaders and members, and among members themselves, leading to a decline in membership rather than growth.

By 2010, the local church was barely able to stand on its own. Seeing this critical state, the District Pastor and the regional church body took deep concern. During the 2011 Presbytery Mission Conference held at Bunghmun Local, a resolution was passed to request the District Missions Department to declare it a mission field and post a full-time worker, which was submitted and subsequently passed by the District Conference.

On January 8, 2012, Rev. C. Darkhuma, Director of the Mission Department, Lunglei District, Lunglei, officially declared and inaugurated it as a mission field.

R. Lalthlamuana of Sekhum was inducted as the field worker by the Director. At that time, the total membership consisted of only Pi Japanliani, Remtluanga (Japanliani's son), and Sangpui (w/o Siamlal Murmu).

As time progressed, the Lord blessed the hard work of the field workers, causing membership to gradually increase, necessitating a new church building. Construction began in early 2016 through the dedicated efforts of the District Pastor, field worker (field in-charge), presbytery leaders, and members, supported by Work Camps organized by the presbytery PYD. The building was successfully completed.

On January 21, 2017, Rev. LH. Lalchhandama, District Pastor of Bunghmun Presbytery, dedicated the new church building, which was grandly celebrated with a community feast.

Since being declared a mission field by the District Mission Department, 6 workers have served here to date, some of whom have gone on to become ordained Pastors.
