BUNGHMUN VILLAGE

Bunghmun village is situated in the north-west of Lunglei, and it is a medium-sized village.

ORIGIN OF THE UPC

Evan. CS. Pachhunga came to Bunghmun High School in 1975 to work as a teacher. By gathering government employees residing there, UPC Bunghmun Local was established on 29.9.1975. Its founders were Rev. CS. Pachhunga, Former District Superintendent, Lunglei District, and his family. The initial members at that time were:

As they did not have a church building, they held worship services at the house of Evan. CS. Pachhunga. In the early part of 1977, several existing UPC members migrated in from Tleu village, and as church membership grew, Bunghmun Local continued to progress forward.

When Bunghmun Local was newly established, Rev. Lalhranga oversaw the pastorate from Thenhlum, and Pu CS. Pachhunga was appointed as Church Chairman/Secretary and Elder.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHURCH BUILDING

When the church was first formed, services were held at the home of Evan. CS. Pachhunga for a long time due to lack of a church building. In 1976, Bro. Paruna and his family were transferred for work, and since they were leaving, they donated their house to be used as a church, where services were held for some time. In 1977, as the church building was destroyed by a storm, services were held at R. Vanchhunga's house. After some time, when Pu Thangchia became VCP, under the leadership of Police O.C Pu Saikunga, they requested the Village Council for a plot just below Pu Thangvela's alley, slightly to the north—which had previously been reclaimed by the VC—and it was granted. The site was excavated under the leadership of Pastor Rosanga, and a building sized 15x24 feet was constructed using sawn timber and CGI sheet roofing. Before Evan. CS. Pachhunga was taken as a Pastor, initiatives were taken under his leadership to build a larger church building. Under the dedicated efforts of Pastor Darkhuma, Pastor F. Aihrima, and Pastor Lalhmahruaia, along with Rs. 3000 from the District, Rs. 4000 from the Government, and contributions from well-wishers, a structure measuring 21x36 ft. with CGI sheet roofing and tile walls was built.

PRESENT STATUS

At present (2025 Half Yearly Statistical Report), Bunghmun Local currently has 85 church members (42 Males, 43 Females).
